I want to do something to bring myself to a new level of maturity and independence. An experience that will teach me life lessons and bring new meaning to “the time of my life”.
I’m 19, live in Southern Caliornia and need an adventure in the time of my life that I feel is the best opportunity for me to have one. I’m in college and would be willing to take the first semester off, after the summer.
What appeals to me? Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, south america…
I’ve thought of riding my motorcycle to Alaska to work for a summer.
I’d love to work on a ship that travels the world.
Work at a ski resort in Chile. (i know some spanish)
These are the types of things that interest me, do you have any suggestions, other than aggreeing with me, on my thoughts.
What’s the catch? I don’t want to lose money, I want to either break even or make some.
I’m not looking for an into the wild type thing, but I do have family in AK and that’s why I’m attracted to alaska.
And another thing, the military is a no-no, I’m thinking like 3-6 months, not 2-4 years.

You should come to Australia and travel around driving . I live here. There is so much to see. Backpackers can do fruitpicking here and the money is quite good and you can sometimes get free accommodation. I would look at fruit picking sites (google it)

Maybe you should try getting a job at the disney cruise ship thing, I know this one lady who works on a ship and she says that she goes around asia and other countries.

i’m having a similar need for an adventure, but the joining the military is going to be my adventure. a great job you can get that one of my friends had is working on a cruise ship. a lot of cruises go to alaska, and you get to see the world. i’m assuming you’ve read or seen Into The Wild?

Go to one of those places and volunteer in a school, an orphanage, a clinic and give of yourself without compensation, then return home and tell no one about it. No fanfare, no self-promotion, nothing. Then see what your level of maturity and independence has become. You will have the “time of your life.”

Camp Counselor or English teacher in a foreign country, etc. See if any of these programs meet your needs.
Pasadena Playhouse internship:
I have some friends who recently traveled to Australia and New Zealand during college and worked at many different jobs one summer, like picking apples on a family farm and staying with the family, and helping care for an elderly man. They had a great time.
Have fun!
