Hi! I’m going on a cruise around South America in about 4 weeks. I’ve been on about 4 cruises, in the Mediteranean, Caribbean, and Alaska. I was fine with motion sickness, and I didn’t get sick. I was totally fine. Are the waters rougher in South America? Any advice?

Went on 3 week South America. Didn’t notice any roughness, but couldn’t go to Devil’s Island because it was too rough for the tender. Crew says they often are unable to go there.

We did south America last March and on our cruise there was a period of several hours after we left Valparaiso, Chile when the waters were rough. But after that it was not much different than any cruise. We cruised the Chilean Fjords and that was very calm. When wee cruised around the Horn the waters were also not choppy. It was kinda windy and chilly but not rough water.
If you are going to Brazil you know that you absolutely positively MUST have a VISA. On our cruise there were about 100 people who did not have it and they were denied boarding the ship until they obtained in through one of those express VISA services. Then they had to pay for a hotel night until they got the VISA and then their own way to meet the ship in the next port stop. The Brazilian VISA is about $140 each for US citizens. You can get your VISA through the Brazilian Consulate closes to where you live.
You’ll also need a VISA for Chile but they let you pay at the entry port. The Chilean VISA was about $130 per person and they take cash or charge cards.
