Is it weird if I go on a cruise alone?

Queen Bee asked:

well, I won’t exactly be alone, but I might have to go on the excursions by myself. I’m going to alaska in july. My brother’s girlfriend invited me to go on a cruise with her and my brother and her family and friends and I’ll be sharing a room with her cousin whom I have never met. But I might have to go on excursions by myself. Like the whale watching and the dog sledding/ helicopter ride…is that a good idea??

You would have a great time going on shore excursions by yourself. I did that 2 cruises ago. I did about 3 shore excursion without my husband and had a great time. He didn’t want to go, so off I went. No problem meeting lots of people, both single and married. Go for it and have a ball.

Great idea !. Better than being stuck with a travel companion whos company you would not enjoy, Go ! Do what YOU want. Or advertise for a travel companion who would be compatible to your tastes. Sometime we enjoy our own company better!

We went on an Alaskan cruise in May of this year. The excursions are great. I don’t think it is weird at all to go out on your own, but there maybe someone in your group that you find you have a lot in common with. The whale watching was VERY expensive, but in Skagway we did a sled dog excursion that was great. We were on a Princess ship and there was always a lot to do. If you are an outgoing person it won’t take much to find someone to hang out with. I think you should go and have fun. Cruises, like any other vacation, are what you make of them. You can be as busy or as lazy as you want.

Go have fun! I have actually gone on two cruises by myself — New York to LA via Panama Canal (14 days) and 16 days in the Mediterranean — and had wonderful times! I met some very nice people and had some absolute luxury in being alone — not having to do things that didn’t interest me, following my own interests, having a bathroom and safe and tv all to myself, etc. So — choose the excursions you want to do, sign up, and go have fun!

I do things all by myself all the time. Excursions are too expensive not to do the one you really want to do. My family often splits up at ports. It takes about 5 minutes to make friends with other people on your excursion and you get to do cool stuff that you would miss otherwise. It’s not weird at all. It’s strong and independent!

Just don’t wander away from the group on your own if you are in the wilderness or a strange town, etc.
